Apostle Carl D. Lykes Sr.

No man is a product of himself but he is a result of the fathers and mothers that preceded him. In this light, the Lord strategically used Bishop Lykes’ Apostolic fathers and mothers who mentored him over the years; the late Pastor Elizabeth Mills, Establishmentarian of Mayfield Apostolic Church, the late Mother Ora Schofield, Pastor of Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church, South Boston, Va.; the late Bishop Johnny H. Covington of the Power House of Deliverance Church of the Apostolic Faith, Greensboro, NC; and The Most Reverend J. Delano Ellis, II of the United Pentecostal Churches of Christ of Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up in the ministry at Greater Mayfield Apostolic Church under the late Pastor Ora Schofield. Bishop Lykes realized at a young age that his life would not take the normal path and that God had a call on his life. While other youth were preoccupied with the cares of life, Bishop Lykes spent countless hours in the presence of elderly wisdom. His spiritual maturity, discipline and understanding of the Word grew exponentially. This proved to be paramount for his destiny. In addition to spiritual growth, Bishop Lykes was educated in the Halifax County Schools and graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion. Additional theological studies were done at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC and attended Seminar s and other Seminaries events at Duke University in Durham, NC. But most importantly, he received his BA from heaven (Born Again). Over the years, he has been trained through spiritual warfare, pressures of life and pastoral care. He has the unique ability to speak into the lives of people from all walks of life. These well noted areas truly qualify him to be a man of God.

Bishop Lykes serves as Presiding Prelate of the Apostolic Faith Churches of Deliverance. He is the Establishmentarian of The Deliverance Tabernacle, South Boston, VA (1979) and Christ Cathedral of Deliverance in Statesville, NC (1994) of which he serves as Senior Pastor. He is also serves as the First Vice Presiding Prelate and Dean of the College of Bishop for the True Vine Churches of Deliverance International, Winston Salem, NC. ` Bishop Lykes was affirmed an Apostle on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 12:00 noon during the First Holy Convocation of the Apostolic Faith Churches of Deliverance by His Grace Apostle Sylvester Davis Johnson. Ferguson, cousin to Secretary of State Colin Powell, at the St. Michael’s Church of Jesus Christ, London England. He has also preached for various conferences, convocations, and installed many to Bishopric and Office of the Apostle.

In addition to ministry, Apostle Lykes’ vision of a school for academic success was established September 2006. At the inception of the school, God sent Mrs. M. Stephanie Jones from New Jersey to serve as Principal. The principalship was transitioned to Apostle Lykes in December 2007 and continues to serve as Principal of the Academy of Excellence. He oversees the educational needs of kindergarten – twelfth grade students. He also instructs Religion (Old and New Testament), World History, U.S. History, and Economics. On a more personal note, Apostle Lykes is an avid University of North Carolina TARHEEL fan. During football and basketball season you can see him cheering in the stands. Apostle’s strong faith encourages his fellow fans that praise is always in order. If they can cheer for their team, they can praise God. He is married to the lovely, Lady Sherry C. Lykes. They enjoy a beautiful family with children and grandchildren, daughter - Myrah Lykes (Jamie Lykes); son - Carl Lykes II; daughter - Natasha Pointer; son - Omar Cooper (Regina); grandchildren: Jamie Lykes, II & Anthony, Rashad & Reshawn White, Tia Cooper & Omar II. The Apostolic lineage continues to grow and prosper and the Lord has been faithful to his word as all of these are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Apostle Carl Daniel Lykes, Sr., born the first day of April in the year of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and fifty-five. He was born to Dorothy Eliza Lykes of South Boston, Virginia. He received a most holy rearing from his grandmother, Mother Mary Rhoda King. As a young man, he developed a spirit of excellence and diligence with the scriptures. Bishop Lykes is a priceless masterpiece that has been a lover of God and a destined preacher since his youth, where he would hold community revivals with the community kids at the age of six and seven. Also, at this young age of five on March 27, 1960, he was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus and on that second Sunday in July, July 10, 1960, he was filled with the Holy Ghost speaking in other tongues, at the Morning Star Holiness Church with Elder Chestley Hargrove.
